FAQ

Does everyone get the same shapes?

Yes, for everyone playing this edition. Every day, five real shapes are drawn at random: three maps (two US states and a country, island, or lake), one landmark, and one object. Nobody knows which ones in advance.

The French edition is a separate game, with its own shapes, its own leaderboard, and its own stats.

Can I redo a shape?

No: one try per shape for the game that counts, same as everyone. A line that’s too short or misses the shape doesn’t count, so you can try that again.

Once you’ve cut all 5 shapes, you can replay the day (and past days) as many times as you like, unranked: your first score is the one that counts.

Why doesn’t the area match the official figure exactly?

The outline is simplified so it reads on a phone, and the tiniest detached pieces (islets, exclaves) are left out. The area shown is the area of the shape you cut, rounded to three digits. It stays within a few percent of the official figure.

Why do some countries never show up?

Countries with disputed borders are left out: the game takes no side on political questions. Scattered archipelagos and shapes too thin for a phone screen are left out too.

What does “Better than 64% of players” mean?

It’s the share of today’s players who finished with a lower total than yours. Ties count as half. While there are only a few players, you get the exact count instead (“beat 3 of 5 players”).

How do I challenge a friend?

After your 5 shapes, tap “Challenge a friend” and send the link. Your friend cuts the same shapes and only sees your cut after making their own.

Do I need an account?

No. Your browser remembers your games with a random ID. If you switch devices or clear the site’s data, your streak starts over.

Why “DemiSemi”?

Demi and semi both mean “half.” And a demisemiquaver is a thirty-second note: a tiny gap, like the one between DEAD ON and CLEAN.
